AI Product Roadmap: Plan Your Next 90 Days in 1 Hour

Most solopreneurs skip product roadmaps because they feel like corporate overhead. Skip it wrong, though, and you spend 90 days building things nobody asked for — and wondering why revenue is flat.

Why a 90-Day AI Product Roadmap Changes Everything

A roadmap is not a wish list. It is a prioritised sequence of what to build, improve, or kill — tied directly to customer demand and revenue. When you do this with AI, you cut the planning session from a full day down to about 60 minutes because the model handles research synthesis, prioritisation frameworks, and first-draft formatting while you make the calls.

What You Need Before You Start

  • A list of your current products or services (even a rough one)
  • Any customer feedback, support tickets, or review snippets you have saved
  • Your top three revenue goals for the next quarter
  • 30 minutes of uninterrupted time for the AI session, plus 30 minutes to review

Step 1 — Dump Your Raw Inputs Into the AI

Open ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini and paste everything you collected above into a single message. Then add this framing: 'You are a product strategist. Based on these inputs, identify the top pain points my customers have and rank them by frequency and revenue impact. Output a numbered list with a one-line rationale for each.' The model will surface patterns you already half-knew but never wrote down. That alone is worth the hour.

Step 2 — Run a Fast Prioritisation Framework

Once you have the pain-point list, ask the AI to apply a simple RICE-style score — Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort — to each item. Prompt: 'Score each item on a 1–5 scale for Reach (how many customers affected), Impact (revenue potential), Confidence (how sure we are), and Effort (weeks to ship). Show the formula RICE = (R × I × C) / E and rank the list.' You will get a ranked table in seconds. Pick the top five items — those become your 90-day roadmap candidates.

Step 3 — Build the Actual AI Product Roadmap Document

Now ask the AI to structure those five items into a three-month timeline. Prompt: 'Arrange these five initiatives across Month 1, Month 2, and Month 3. For each, write: a one-sentence goal, two to three key tasks, a success metric, and the single biggest risk. Format as a table.' Export the table to Notion, Google Docs, or a spreadsheet. You now have a living roadmap — not a vague idea in your head.

Step 4 — Pressure-Test It With a Devil's Advocate Prompt

Before you commit, run one more prompt: 'Act as a skeptical investor. What are the three most likely reasons this roadmap will fail? What assumptions am I making that could be wrong?' This is the step most people skip, and it is the most valuable. The AI will flag sequencing issues, resource gaps, and market assumptions you glossed over. Fix what you can; document the rest as known risks.

A plan you can question in 10 minutes is worth more than a perfect plan you never finish.

Step 5 — Set a Weekly Check-In Prompt

Roadmaps die in drawers. Keep yours alive by saving a weekly review prompt: 'Here is my 90-day roadmap and this week's progress notes. What is off track? What should I adjust? What decision do I need to make this week?' Paste your notes in every Monday morning. The whole check-in takes under 10 minutes and keeps you from drifting. Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Putting more than five initiatives in a 90-day plan — focus beats ambition every time
  • Skipping the devil's advocate step because the first draft looks good
  • Using the roadmap as a contract instead of a guide — update it when reality changes
  • Forgetting to tie each initiative to a measurable outcome, not just a task

Your 90-Day Roadmap Is Ready — Now Execute

You just went from zero to a prioritised, risk-checked, time-phased product roadmap in about an hour. The AI did the synthesis and formatting; you made the strategic calls. That is the right division of labour. Run this process at the start of every quarter and you will always know exactly what to build next — and more importantly, what to ignore.
