AI Case Study Interviews: Great Questions in 20 Min

A well-crafted case study can close more deals than any sales page — but most solopreneurs skip them because writing the interview questions alone takes an hour. With AI, you can have a full, tailored question set ready in 20 minutes.

Why Case Study Interview Questions Matter So Much

Weak questions produce weak quotes. "How was working with us?" gets you "Great, would recommend!" — useless for a case study. You need questions that pull out specific numbers, before-and-after contrasts, and emotional turning points. That structure is exactly what AI is good at building.

What You Need Before You Open the AI Tool

  • The client's industry and job title
  • The core problem they hired you to solve
  • The main deliverable or service you provided
  • One rough outcome you already know about (e.g., 'saved time on invoicing')
  • The format you want — written questionnaire, 20-min call, or video

Five bullet points. That is all the context an AI model needs to generate a complete, professional interview guide.

The Prompt That Gets You Specific, Story-Driven Questions

Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini — fill in the brackets:

You are a B2B content strategist. Write 12 case study interview questions for a client who is a [job title] in [industry]. They hired me, a [your role], to [core problem solved]. A known result is [rough outcome]. Questions should cover: their situation before hiring me, the decision to work with me, the process, specific measurable results, and a memorable quote-worthy moment. Use plain conversational language. Format as a numbered list.

Run that once and you will get a structured arc — context, conflict, resolution, proof — which is exactly the shape a compelling case study needs.

Refining the AI Output in Two More Prompts

The first pass is usually 80% of the way there. Use two quick follow-up prompts to sharpen it:

  • "Rewrite questions 4 and 7 to prompt a specific number or percentage, not a general feeling."
  • "Add two questions that encourage the client to compare their situation before and after in a single sentence — the kind of contrast that works as a pull quote."

Those two tweaks turn a decent question list into one that generates quotable, data-backed answers you can drop straight into a case study page.

Turning Interview Answers Into a Finished Case Study

Once your client sends back answers, paste them into the AI with this follow-up prompt: "Using these answers, write a 400-word case study in a problem-solution-results structure. Use the client's own words wherever possible. End with a one-sentence pull quote." The draft will need light editing for your brand voice, but the heavy lifting is done. Sending the Questions Without Awkward Back-and-Forth

Ask AI to also draft the short email that delivers the questions. Something like: "Write a 3-sentence email to a happy client asking them to answer 12 short questions for a case study. Mention it takes 15 minutes, that I will share the draft with them before publishing, and keep the tone warm but professional." Clients are far more likely to respond when the ask feels low-effort and safe.

How Long This Workflow Actually Takes

  • Gather your five context bullets: 3 minutes
  • Run the main prompt and two refinements: 8 minutes
  • Review and personalise the question list: 5 minutes
  • Generate and send the outreach email: 4 minutes
  • Total: under 20 minutes

Make Case Studies a Repeatable System

Save your final question template as a reusable prompt. Next time a project wraps, you fill in five variables and hit send in under five minutes. Over a year, even two case studies per month compounds into a library of social proof that does your selling while you sleep.
